The department of Political Science ,Amguri College was established at the same Year as it was established in 1967 along with the College. The major course of the department was started right from 2001.Surrendra Nath Kakoty was the founder Professor and head of the department. Dr Wahida Islam was another Senior faculty at that time.Champok Dutta and Ratnamoni Kownar joined as faculty in 2003. In 2007 Aparajita Hazarika joined as assistant Professor after retirement of Surrendra Nath Kakoty. After him Dr. Wahida Islam was the head of the department till 2017.During that period many faculty were temporally appointed for better treatment of the students.

At present there are four teachers in the department of which three are assistant Professor and one is visiting faculty .Aparajita Hazarika is present HOD of the department . Another three are Ratna moni Konwar , (Assistant Professor ), Kumar Pantanti (Assistant Profesor , joining in 2017)and Papuli Borah ( visiting faculty , joining in 2019).One post is lying vacant.

All the teachers of the department are actively associated with various academic activities by engaging themselves in student-related works, own career development activities.

At present there are nearly about 300 Students from major and core courses. Till now, from the beginning, the students have shown goods results in every year. Lots of students get first class in the departments. There is a library in the department to help those students enrich themselves with some rare sights of Political Science. For the mental and intellectual progress of the students, every year we release a magazine named (Agoli). It is usually nominated for award in Annual College Week Ceremony. From this department, lots of students have shown their talents in Debates and Quiz competitions and have passed from this departments joining the various Government and private jobs in various institutions.
