Department of Economics of Amguri. College is established along with the establishment. College in 1967.But Major course stated in 1983. Sjt.Dulal Baruah started the Deptt. and later he was accompanied by his wife Mrs. Purabi Chetia. In the midst before 1990 Mr. Mridul Dutta worked in the department for few years and later he shifted to J. B College. Since 1990 two new teachers joined and they are Mr. Biman Sensua Baruah and Dr. Dipamoni Borthakur. After the retirement of Dulal Baruah and Purabi Chetia two new teachers joined and they are Dr. Rupan Basumatary and Dr. Priyanka Dutta. Dr. Rupan Basumatary left the Department and joined Cotton University as Asstt. Prof.

At present three regular teachers and one tutor is running the department. Mrs Madhusmita Sharmah has been working in the department since 2014.

Department of Economics is one of the important departments of the college. It is the central attraction of meritorious students of the locality.Earlier run as honours and later in Semester system as Major and presently know as Core many students have been giving the opportunity to learn economics and strengthen the base for higher education like PG in different universities. It was a regular outcomes of securing first class in every final exam. One Ms. Gitanjali Bhattacharyya scored 1st class second position from the department. In HS section also students score good marks and score letter marks.

All regular teachers undergone due refresher and orientation course, participate Seminars, present papers and publish them. Department organized a National level seminar also. Published a journal .

The department has own departmental library at its room. Lending books to the students is a regular exercise.

Department helps the economically poor students regularly by paying admission fees. Even after leaving the college brilliant students are helped financially for higher studies.

Teachers of the department participate in all college activities like examination conduct, checking the answer script of university and council exams. In college development activities by involving in various committees teachers contribute regularly. Mr. Biman Sensua Baruah was the co-ordinator of the IQAC for the period 2004-20017 and NAAC assessment during 2017 .
The department conduct sample survey involving the students. Organizes student seminar regularly. Students are brought for excursion regularly.
