Amguri collegle was established in 1967.But the department of philosophy was started from 2005.The founder teacher was Pallavi Borpatragohain. She was joined 2005 and served the college till 2010 with no other teacher in the department. Then Bonoshree Neog, was joined 2010 and served till 2011.Violina Gogoi was joined 2011and served till 2012.Mousumi Saikia was joined 2012 in the college and. served till 2013.

Presently there is only one teacher in the department. Mrs Ashima Khanikor joined the department in the year 2013.There are no any permanent teacher in the department. Besides Ashima Khanikor Mrs Parthona Duwarah also joined in 2018 and served for one year.

In the year 2014 , Dibrugarh University approved the pass course in philosophy at Amguri College. There is no limit for seat for general course (Generic). The department history of philosophy department was glorious. Students have got letter marks in this subject in Higher Secondary final examination. Already four batches were complete degree course in philosophy as pass course.
