Department of Political Science

The Department of Political Science was established in 1967 along with the college. The Major course was started in 2001. Surrendra Nath Kakoty was the founder Professor and HOD. Dr. Wahida Islam and Champok Dutta were also early faculty. In 2007, Aparajita Hazarika joined as Assistant Professor. At present there are three teachers — Aparajita Hazarika (HOD), Ratnamoni Konwar and Kumar Pantanti (joined 2017) — along with one visiting faculty.

The department has around 300 students in major and core courses. Students consistently produce good results every year with many securing First Class. The department maintains a library and publishes a magazine named 'Agoli' annually, which is regularly nominated for awards in the Annual College Week Ceremony.

Alumni from this department have demonstrated talent in debates and quiz competitions and hold positions in various government and private institutions.
